As I mentioned in last week’s post<\/a>, it’s October and for me\u00a0that means\u00a0it’s time to do all of the Halloween things! And what says Halloween more than a soulless, bloodthirsty monster that only comes out to play at night?<\/p>\n

I developed my love of vampires early, due to a steady diet of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and comic books.\u00a0I like\u00a0my vampires slightly evil, very\u00a0snarky, and most of all, absolutely not sparkling.\u00a0So, in the spirit of the spooky season I thought I’d take this opportunity\u00a0to give you a list my favorite vampires in popular culture.<\/p>\n

Spike (aka William the Bloody), Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Was there any doubt that Spike would make the list? He’s hands down my absolute favorite vampire. He’s evil and quick witted, but underneath it all he has a kind heart that only comes out in the rarest of situations. He’s a great foil and eventual partner for Buffy and I would watch the two of\u00a0them trade barbs all day long.<\/p>\n

Adrian Ivashkov, Vampire Academy<\/i>\/Bloodlines<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a fancast of Adrian, but I’m in total agreement.<\/p><\/div>\n

Adrian. Oh, Adrian. You are the best book vampire boyfriend ever. Even if you have\u00a0that drinking problem. And the cigarette\u00a0addiction. Your snark, self-deprecating humor, and undying loyalty more than makes up for it.<\/p>\n

John Mitchell, Being Human<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mitchell is my very favorite thing about Being Human<\/em> (the BBC version, just\u00a0so we’re clear). Sure, Mitchell was a bloodthirsty vampire, but he genuinely loved humanity and struggled going cold-turkey on human blood.<\/p>\n

Vamp!Willow and Vamp!Xander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m counting these as one, since they only appeared in the one (okay, two) episodes of BtVS<\/em>. But what a delight they were in that one episode. It made me almost wish we’d see one of them turn fully vamp before the show wrapped.<\/p>\n

Damon Salvatore, The Vampire Diaries<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

I only recently entered the world of The\u00a0Vampire Diaries and while for the first few episodes I was all, “Stefan is GREAT and Damon is horrible!” I quickly changed my tune. Damon is sassy and sarcastic and has the best one-liners in the show. But underneath all of that he has an incredibly good heart and honestly cares about the people\u00a0he considers important.<\/p>\n

Caroline Forbes, The Vampire Diaries<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"moody-caroline-forbes-the-vampire-diaries\"<\/a>I adored Caroline as a human, but I absolutely love her as a vampire. She’s slightly neurotic, incredibly kind, and always willing to put her friends first. Yet, she’ll turn around\u00a0and tear anyone who threatens her and those she loves into little, itty bitty pieces.<\/p>\n

Dracula, Bram Stoker\u2019s Dracula<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gary Oldman as Dracula is undeniably creepy and incredibly captivating. He is absolutely who I think of whenever someone mentions Dracula.<\/p>\n

Blade (Eric Brooks), Marvel<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Blade\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Blade fascinated me because he’s not a true vampire, but he’s not a true\u00a0human. He’s a unique hybrid with all the abilities that brings, and he chooses to use those to fight evil. I didn’t\u00a0read any of his comics until after I saw the Wesley Snipes movie, but I was really glad that I did.<\/p>\n

Selene, Underworld<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

I might be one of the rare few out there who actually enjoyed the Underworld<\/em> movies. Now, don’t get me wrong, they’re not great by any means. But I really enjoy watching Kate Beckinsdale as Selene kick some serious lycan ass.<\/p>\n

Dimitri Belikov, Vampire Academy<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Okay, so this one is cheating a tiny\u00a0bit as Dimitri is only a full vampire for a short period of time. But\u00a0he is so much more fascinating as a Strigoi than he is as a dhampir. To be honest, as a dhampir, he’s kinda boring.<\/p>\n
