Best Fictional Places to Spend Your Summer Vacation

Today marks the first official day of summer, (though if you live anywhere like us you’ve already been experiencing summer levels of heat for a few weeks now) and thoughts start to turn to vacations and relaxing instead of work or school. And while I’m not in school anymore and summer vacations seem like nothing but a long ago memory, it’s nice to dream about where I’d like to go if given the chance. So, here are my top picks for the best fictional vacation spots!

The Burrow, Harry Potter

???????????

Is there anyone out there who read the Harry Potter books and didn’t want to visit the Weasleys’ home? I didn’t think so. Just imagine all the fun you could have! Playing quidditch in the back field, flinging gnomes over the fence, banding together with Ginny to start an epic prank war with the twins, and eating Mrs. Weasley’s cooking. By the time your vacation comes to a close, you’ll be begging the Weasleys to adopt you.

Hobbiton, The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit

hobbiton

If you’re looking for a place to kick back and relax with no responsibilities beyond maybe drinking a few pints, this is the place for you. With its beautiful green hills, lakes, and cozy little hobbit holes, you’ll find yourself wishing you never have to go home.

Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Willy-Wonka-And-Chocolate-Factory

If you’re the type that can’t take sitting around for too long without anything to do (so, beach trips are right out), then this might be the perfect trip. You can tour the factory, watch how the candy is made, befriend the Oompa Loompas, and maybe even get the chance to chat with Willy Wonka himself. Just make sure to follow the rules or your dream vacation might take a turn for the worst.

Neverland, Peter Pan

Neverland

An entire island full of mermaids, fairies, pirates, and other magical creatures? Fairy dust that will let you fly? Secret hidey-holes inside of trees? All in a place where you can act like a kid again without anyone looking at you strangely? Sign me up for a week!

Narnia, The Chronicles of Narnia

narnia

If you can find the right magic wardrobe to step through, you’re on your way to an amazing, one-of-a-kind vacation. Narnia is vast and gorgeous, with something for everyone whether you prefer a beach view, a mountain cabin, or a quiet house in the woods. You can make friends with the locals, who might happen to be talking animals, dwarves, or trees. And be sure to keep an eye out for Aslan.

Wonderland, Alice in Wonderland

wonderland

Is it your birthday? No? Well that’s fine, in Wonderland you’ll be able to celebrate your very merry unbirthday at a tea party! If that’s not your thing, take a stroll through the enchanted woods and make friends with the flowers. Or if you prefer to live a bit more dangerously, you could battle it out with the Queen of Hearts! Wonderland has something for everyone!

X-Mansion, Marvel Comics

x-mansion

If you feel like you’re constantly struggling to fit in, a trip to the X-Mansion in upstate NY might be the perfect trip for you. Professor Xavier will welcome you with a smile and a nod and you can spend your vacation getting to know the other students, learning from some of the best mutant teachers around, and hanging out on the incredible grounds. Just be prepared to take cover in the inevitable eventuality that a fight between the X-Men and the Brotherhood breaks out.

Hyrule, The Legend of Zelda

zelda

With its gorgeous rolling fields, dense and beautiful forests, underwater castles, and treacherous mountains, Hyrule would never get boring. There’s swimming, horseback riding, climbing and sword fights for the adventurous, while those less inclined to take risks can wander the fields, show at the markets, and relax under the trees.
